Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, said that Buhari’s administration will re-launch the War Against Indiscipline and Corruption soon.
He said this at a meeting tagged: “Change begins with me”, which he had with the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) officials in Abuja yesterday to solicit their support in the on-going war against terrorism.
The Minister added that the National Orientation Agency (NOA) which have offices across the 774 local government councils, will fuel the campaign.
He said another campaign against corruption would be unveiled soon, saying that proceeds from corruption end up in Boko Haram accounts. The minister enlisted the support of BON in the battle to defeat terrorists, noting that the nation is at war against terrorists, Alhaji Muhammed said the media cannot afford to be neutral at this time.
“This war against terror is our war, not the military’s war’’, he stated, charging them to assist government in disseminating security awareness campaign messages to the nooks and crannies of the country”.
The minister said the essence of the campaign was to educate and inform Nigerians on the need to support the military, which had earned for itself credibility in the course of the battle.
It was also aimed at informing the citizenry the need to be more security conscious, to be able to identify Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), the weapon of choice being deployed by the terrorists.
One of the BON members requested that the government should assist them in protecting their broadcast installations and the minister replied that he would reach out to the Inspector-General of Police to provide security for all broadcasting premises and facilities nation-wide.
BON Chairman and Director-General of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Mr. Shola Omole, on behalf of the body, assured the minister that they will be very supportive, noting that “it’s only when our nation survives that we will all pursue our businesses”.
