Barcelona halted their winless streak as a brace from talisman Lionel Messi inspired them to a 4-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur in Group B on matchday two of this season’s UEFA Champions League at the Wembley Stadium on Wednesday.

Prior to the game, Barcelona had failed to win their last three games (two draws and one defeat).

It was Barcelona’s second group win following their opening day victory against PSV while Spurs suffered their second group stage loss.

Aside Messi netting a brace, Ivan Rakitic and Philippe Coutinho were the other scorers for Barcelona while Harry Kane and Erik Lamela got Spurs’ goals.

Barcelona now sit top in the group on six points with Inter Milan, who also recorded their second group stage win after beating PSV 2-1, in second place also on six points.

Last season’s Champions League finalist, were beaten 1-0 by Napoli in a Group C encounter in Italy.

Lorenzo Insigne’s 90th minute goal secured Napoli their first win in the group which saw them move to the top of the group on four points and Liverpool to the third spot on three points.

The group’s other game between Paris Saint-Germain and Red Star Belgrade ended 6-1 in favour of the French champions with star forward Neymar netting a hat-trick.

Other scorers for PSG who are now second on three points, are Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria and Edinson Cavani.

Other results of matchday two in this season’s UEFA Champions League saw Atletico Madrid beat visiting Club Brugge 3-1, Dortmund thrashing AS Monaco 3-0,

Lokomotiv Moscow losing 1-0 at home to Schalke and Galatasaray, with Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru in action for the Turkish side, going down 1-0 away to FC Porto.
