The recent election of core candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as leaders of the two chambers of the National Assembly has been described as a big win for the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Giving this insight in a statement issued and circulated in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, a chieftain of the APC in the South-South, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, also congratulated the new Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, for a well-deserved victory, charging him to be a worthy representative of both the South-South region and the party as well as to prove the trust of President Buhari in him as well placed.
Eze, who is one of the critical voices of the APC in the South-South region, also congratulated President Buhari and the entire leadership of the party for the peaceful and successful conduct of the election of the principal officers of the National Assembly describing it as a good omen to take Nigeria to the Next Level.
According to him, “with the election of core APC leaders, who believe in the ideaoloy and principles behind the formation of APC, like the erstwhile Majority Leader of the 8th Senate, Ahmad Lawan, as the Senate President and his counterpart in the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the dream of recovering the dreams of the founding fathers of Nigeria are set to be actualised at last.
Eze described Senator Ovie Omo Agege as an influential leader worthy to occupy the exalted position of the Deputy President of the Senate highlighting that he is the first Senators to win a re-election in Delta Central Senatorial District and sponsored over 10 bills in the 8th Assembly, reportedly the most by any Senator of the 8th Assembly.
“My appreciation in this regard goes to president Buhari; the National Leader of the APC, Senator Bola Tinubu; National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole; and Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the APC Leader in the South-South and all those who one way or the other ensured that the Deputy President of the Senate was zoned to the region and clinched by a committed and loyal APC leader in the person of Senator Omo Agege.
“I commend the PDP senators and members of the House of Representative for exhibiting maturity and unity by cooperating with their counterparts in APC in ensuring that credible and capable leaders were saddled with the responsibility of presiding over the two legislative chambers, this time that President Muhammad Buhari needs the support of the National Assembly to turn the fortunes of this country around
“I also congratulate my good friend, Senator Omo-Agege, for his well-deserved victory, but I cry that such an exalted national position could have been for Rivers state, if not for the inglorious role played by Senator Magnus Abe, who collaborated with both internal and external forces to truncate the plan through which Abe would have contested as a third term Senator so that Rivers state could have clinched this office.
,”Senator Omo-Agege is a great son of the Niger Delta region and will ensure that the zone is adequately represented and collaborate with the ministers to be soon appointed to attract the elusive projects and development to the region”, Eze assured.
Eze notes with sadness the ignominious role played by Senator Abe in ensuring that APC did not field candidates for the 2019 general elections, describing it as “a role that has kept him in the political wilderness he has found himself today as Governor Nyesom Wike, who was the major beneficiary of Abe’s misguided and unfortunate role, has decided to keep him at bay to the extent of not appointing him into any cabinet office.
“The leader of the external force that used him to ridicule APC in Rivers state has asked him to keep off his coast, stating that he if he could betray his own benefactor and mentor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the way he did, how can he (Abe) assure him that he will not betray him in future”, he said.
He said further that he had counseled Abe not to toe this path, warning then that he would politically ruin himself, but according to the party chieftain, the former senator refused to yield to the wise counsel.
Eze went further to state that Abe could still rediscover himself by formally apologising to APC leaders that he truncated their political ambitions and to the Rivers people upon whom he had succeeded to install a retrogressive government.
