Attempt by the female lawyer, Mrs. Udeme Odibi, 48, who was accused of stabbing her husband to death to stop the burial of her deceased husband slated for today failed.

The defendant made the request before the Yaba Magistrate’s Court through her lawyer, Mr.Oluseye Bamijoko, on the ground that the result of the autopsy carried out on the deceased was not made available to them.

Her lawyer also argued that the result of the psychiatric evaluation carried out on Mrs. Odibi was not made available to the defence.

Chief Magistrate Kikelomo Ayeye ordered that the defendant be remanded in Kirikiri Maximum prison and directed  the Comptroller of Prisons to allow her access to doctor and defence counsel in private.

A request was earlier made for her to be remanded in Ikoyi prison but that order could not be made because there were no female facilities in Ikoyi prison.

She also rejected the request to stop the planned burial of the deceased today, saying that will be a rude interruption to the right of the dead.

Magistrate Ayeye said if necessary, the body can still be exhumed for further investigation.

The defence is further insisting on independent autopsy and psychiatric evaluation of the suspect.

The counsel informed the court that the suspect has been diagnosed with thyroid disease necessitating the urgent need to see a doctor.
