COVID-19: Ganduje declares total lockdown in Kano

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has declared a lockdown of the state over the increasing spread of the novel Coronavirus in the state.

This was disclosed in a post on Twitter by Salihu Tanko Yakasai, Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, on Tuesday.

Kano State currently has four confirmed Coronavirus cases.

According to Yakasai, the lockdown takes effect from Thursday for an initial period of seven days.

The governor’s aide stated that there would be no movement in the state during the seven-day lockdown period, noting that security agencies have been empowered by the governor to arrest defaulters.

“H.E @GovUmarGanduje has ordered for a complete lockdown of Kano State from Thursday 16th of April, and the lockdown is expected to last for initial 7days,” he tweeted.

“There will be no movement in the State and the security agencies have been ordered to arrest anyone violating this order,” Yakasai tweeted.

Ganduje’s decision comes a day after northern governors said they could not afford to lock down their states due to the economic impact on residents, particularly farmers.
