Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde, has been replaced by Ibrahim Magu, a official of the Economic and Governance Unit of the EFCC.
Lamorde, who has been the chairman of the EFCC since 2011 was earlier reported to have been sacked by President Buhari. However, Presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, said that Mr. Lamorde “was not sacked”, but that he was proceeding on terminal leave ahead of the expiration of his tenure February 2016.
Proceeding on a terminal leave means President Buhari has refused Mr. Lamorde a second allowable term at the commission.
Mr. Adesina issued a statement saying President Buhari has approved the appointment of Ibrahim Mustafa Magu as Acting Chairman of the Commission.
Mr. Magu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, was a former Head of the Governance Unit of the anti-graft agency.
