Ekiti does not need an Airport – Bola Tinubu

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Chairman of the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC), has said there is no need for an Airport in Ado-Ekiti the Ekiti State capital.

He stated this during the seventh convocation ceremony of Afe Babalola University.

At the event, Tinubu told Dr Kayode Fayemi, the Ekiti state governor, the event host, Chief Afe Babalola and other dignitaries present, that there was no need for it in the state.

There have been a long time plan for the building of an airport in Ekiti state, and an eight man panel was set up to oversea the construction.

The immediate past administration, led by Peter Ayodele Fayose, could not bring it to fruition, the current administration has sought continue the push.

The founder of Afe Babalola University, Chief Afe Babalola, is said to have been part of those who wanted the construction of the airport because of his University.

The former Lagos State governor and former lawmaker, said that it would amount to a waste if the state’s scarce resources if an airport is been built.

Tinubu noted that the Airport in Akure the Ondo State capital l,  was enough to meet the air  travel needs of the residents of Ekiti and also the visitors.

He added that what is needed now, is for the state to push for the rehabilitation of Ado-Akure road, as the Airport in Akure will serve both States.
