Vincent Kompany’s superb strike secured a hard-fought 1-0 win for Manchester City against a resolute Leicester City side in Monday night’s Premier League game at the Etihad.
City needed to respond to Liverpool’s 3-2 win against Newcastle United and had to wait until the 70th minute thanks to Kompany’s long range strike from 30 yards.
With a few minutes remaining in the game, Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho had a big chance to draw Leicester level after he was played in through on goal but dragged his effort wide of target.
The win puts City back in the driving seat in the race for the Premier League title with Liverpool, going into the final day on Sunday.
The Premier League champions are now on 95 points while Liverpool drop to second on 94 points.
A win for City away to Brighton and Hove Albion, irrespective of Liverpool’s result against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield, will see them retain the league title.
