Marcus Rashford struck a last-minute goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers to give Manchester United a 1-0 win in a Premier League fixture at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game seemed destined to be a draw when Rashford took possession on the edge of the area, near to the goal-line in the 93rd minute.

After cutting inside the box, the England man let fly with a left-footed shot that deflected off Romain Saiss to leave Rui Patricio completely wrong-footed.

The game was a tight affair as Wolves continued to struggle without Raul Jimenez in attack, while the home side failed to inspire despite the return of Paul Pogba alongside Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

Fernandes was unusually wasteful when Mason Greenwood picked him out with a deep cross just before half-time, but his effort was saved by goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

Rashford and Anthony Martial wasted chances and although Edinson Cavani did have the ball in the net, the Uruguayan was correctly ruled offside.

United are now two points behind leaders Liverpool having played the same number of games, which is as close as they have been to the top of the table at this stage of the season since their former legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, retired.

Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette was the star for Arsenal, scoring within 21 seconds of coming on as a second half substitution, as the side beat Brighton in the Premier League on Tuesday.

On the field, Arsenal eased fears they could be dragged into a relegation battle with a 3-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday and can now look up the table with hope thanks to consecutive league wins for the first time since the opening two games of the season.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang returned from injury in the place of Alexandre Lacazette in the only change made by Arteta.

But Lacazette came off the bench to make an instant impact and win the game with a fine near-post finish from Bukayo Saka’s pass.

Victory moves the Gunners up to 13th, within seven points of the top four.

West Brom are next up for Arsenal at the weekend and the Baggies confidence after a shock 1-1 draw at Liverpool on Sunday quickly evaporated in a 5-0 hammering by Leeds.
