Chelsea suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season as they were defeated 3-1 by Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

It was also Chelsea’s first loss in all competitions in the current campaign.

Dele Alli continued his impressive goal scoring run against Chelsea as he broke the deadlock in the eighth minute, heading in from Christian Eriksen’s brilliant free-kick to Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal for the Blues.

Harry Kane made it 2-0 (his 25th Premier League London derby goal) in the 16th minute with a low drive from outside the box which beat the Chelsea keeper.

Spurs continued to create chances and were rewarded in the 58th minute thanks to Son Heung-Min who went on a superb solo run before finding the back of the net to make it 3-0.

The goal against Chelsea was Heung-Min’s 50th in 154 games in all competitions for Spurs.

With five minutes remaining in the game, substitute, Olivier Giroud, pulled a goal back for Chelsea as his downward header off Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross beat Hugo Lloris in Spurs’ goal.

Spurs climb above Chelsea and are now third on 30 points while Chelsea drop to fourth on 28 points in the league table.

Other Saturday Premier League games

In other Saturday games, Nigeria’s Leon Balogun who was excused from the Uganda friendly having supposedly cupped a knock in tie against South Africa was declared fit enough to make the bench as Brighton & Hove were held to a 1-1 draw by Leicester City.

Balogun’s international teammates Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho also did not make the starting lineup but appeared off the bench in the 32nd minute and 70th minute respectively.

Ndidi was booked in the game while Iheanacho won a penalty that helped Leicester City get a share of the spoils.

At the Vicarage Road Stadium, Isaac Success was a 57th-minute substitute as Watford were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool.

Everton did enough for all the three points as they got a 1-0 win against Cardiff City thanks to Gylfi Sigurdsson’s 59th-minute goal.

Life for Claudio Ranieri at Fulham started on a bright note as the new manager led his team to a 3-2 win over Southampton.

Manchester City maintained their grip at the top with another comprehensive 0-4 trouncing of West Ham.

Meanwhile, a tepid Manchester United dented their hopes of catching up with the English Premier League’s top four after failing to spark against 15th-placed Crystal Palace on Saturday.
