Falcons batter E/Guinea to qualify for semifinals 2018 AWCON

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have qualified for the semi-finals of this year’s Africa Women’s Cup of Nations after trouncing Equatorial Guinea 6-0 in their final Group B match on Saturday.

Asisat Oshoala opened her goals account at this year’s edition as she netted a hat-trick with Desire Oparanozie, Francisca Ordega and Rita Chikwelu also getting on the score sheet.

It was the Falcons’ second win of the tournament following their 4-0 win against Zambia in their second group game.

Ordega opened scoring in the 10th minute with Oshoala doubling the lead just three minutes later.

Oshoala extended the Falcons’ lead making it 3-0 in the 22nd minute before completing her hat-trick on 34 minutes to bring the score to 4-0.

And in the 63rd minute, Chikwelu scored the game’s fifth with Oparanozie’s goal putting the icing on the cake.

The win saw the Falcons finish second behind South Africa who topped Group B with seven points after they played 1-1 with Zambia in the group’s other game which was played simultaneously in Accra.

The Super Falcons will now take on Group A winners Cameroon in the first semi-final on Tuesday in Accra while South Africa will face Mali in the second semi-final in Cape Coast also on Tuesday.

The semi-final winners will automatically qualify for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
