Not less than 13 wedding guests, including the groom’s brother and his wife, have died in an accident which occurred in Etche Local Government Area of River State.
It was gathered that the Coaster bus conveying the wedding guests collided with a truck close close to Akpoku- Udufor community in the state last Saturday.
It was said that the bus was travelling from Afara community in Etche to a community in the neighbouring Imo State for the traditional marriage between one chief Ambrose Igbokwe Nwuzi and his third wife.
The Nation quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the accident took place less than 30 minutes after the bus took off, killing more than 13 of its passengers and leaving others injured.
Eyewitnesses blamed the accident on over-speeding on the part of the coaster bus driver, adding it somersaulted many times after the collision.
Eleven of the victims were said to have died on the spot, while two others died on the way to the hospital.
Nnamdi Omoni, spokesperson of the Rivers State police command, confirmed the incident.
He, however, said only five copses were recovered from the scene.
“Yes, I am aware of it. Five bodies were recovered from the scene and deposited at the hospital. Some persons with injuries were taken to the hospital. I don’t know if there were more deaths,” he stated.
