The appeal committee of FIFA Friday overturned Lionel Messi’s four-match ban from international matches.

The Argentinian captain had been banned for swearing at an assistant referee.

The world governing body said there was not enough evidence to support the ban.

“The FIFA Appeal Committee has upheld the appeal lodged by the Argentine Football Association, on behalf of the player Lionel Messi, against the decision taken by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, lifting the sanctions imposed on him as a result,” a FIFA statement said.

The news is a boost to Argentina who need their captain to fight for a place in the 2018 World Cup. They lost their qualifier match against Bolivia on 28 March following the ban of their talisman.
