Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris has debunked the story published by some online and print media that he is the father of the member Representing Ajaokuta Federal constituency, Lawal Mohammed IDRIS.
The ex governor who made this known in a statement signed by his media office said aside the coincidence in the names of the embattled member and one of his sons, he has no biological ties with him.

The embattled House of Representatives member is facing series of fraud allegations with the latest being the alleged falsification of Yaba Tech certificate through which he won the race to the House of Representatives in 2015 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The statement reads in apart, “My attention has been called to a news item first published by Sahara Reporters and currently trending in the social media. The report which is rated as an EXCLUSIVE, by the On-Line outfit is captioned How Lawal Idris, Ex-Kogi Gov’s Son, Forged YabaTech Certificate To Win House of Reps Seat.

“In brief, the said report is an expose of how Lawal Mohammed Idris, member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency in the Lower House on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, forged certificate and other documents of Yaba College of Technology to facilitate and seal his election into the House of Representatives. According to the reports, a police investigation has revealed how the lawmaker paid N10 Million to a staff of YabaTech to secure the forged documents.

“I applaud the security agencies and the Nigerian media for their efforts in exposing suspected corrupt tendencies and fraudulent practices in order to sanitize the Nigerian political space. However, much as this is the case, I wish to correct the wrong impression created in the report that the embattled law maker, is my biological son and to clarify as follows:

“I have many children among whom is Hon. Mohammed Idris, a businessman cum politician. Mohammed was elected into the House of Representatives 2007-2011 to represent the good people of Omala/ Ankpa/ Olamaboro Federal Constituency of Kogi State. He has since completed his stewardship and currently attending to his business. His academic records have never been in doubts.

“It is a coincidence that the embattled lawmaker Mohammed Lawal Idris, shares similar First and Surnames with my son. They are not one and the same person. Whereas the man accused of forgery has Lawal as middle name and hails from Ajaokuta Local Government which he still represents in the Lower House, my son hails from Omala L.G, does not answer Lawal and has since left the Lower House. Clearly, this is a case of mistaken identity.

“I urge members of the public to discountenance the confusion in identity created in the report and advise journalists to carry out discreet and detailed investigations before going public with their findings.”
