The Speaker and deputy speaker of the Ekiti State house of assembly have been impeached by members of the house.
The Speaker Hon Kola Oluwawole and his deputy Mr Sina Animasun were reportedly impeached this afternoon by some members of the house.
The impeached leaders were members of the PDP and supporters of the outgoing Governor Ayodele Fayose.
The house immediately elected and installed Mr Adeniran Alagbada representing Ise constituency as the speaker and Segundo Adewunmi as the deputy speaker, both members of the APC.
The latest development is seen as a victory for the APC as they prepare to take over the Government house too.
The impeachment is believed to be Influenced by the imminent change in government as Dr. Kayode Fayemi of the APC will officially be inaugurated as Governor of the state on Tuesday.
Meanwhile the impeached Speaker Hon Kola Oluwawole, has condemned the act, noting it was carried out illegally with total disregard for the rule of law.
According to a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Stephen Gbadamosi, the former Speaker of the house said that those who carried out the impeachment act did so illegally.
He noted that they were provided with police cover and prevented other members from entering the building, not even staffs of the establishment.
Newly installed speaker Hon. Adeniran Alagbada defected from PDP to APC in June with his political guide Prince Dayo Adeyeye.
