German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday fired warning shots at US President Donald Trump. She warned the US leader against “destroying” the United Nations.
“I believe that destroying something without having developed something new is extremely dangerous,” she warned
Speaking at a regional campaign event in Bavaria Germany, Merkel reiterated her believe that multilateralism is the best approach to settle most global issues.
She expressed dismay at Trump’s failure to see the possibility for win-win solutions, instead seeing only one winner from any international negotiation.
Speaking to the General Assembly at the UNAG last week, Trump reiterated that he and his administration “reject the ideology of globalism, and we embrace the doctrine of patriotism”.
“Global governance” is a form of “coercion and domination” that “responsible nations must defend against”, he said
