Hoodlums again attack police station in Imo

Some suspected hoodlums on Thursday morning have again attacked Mbieri Divisional Police Headquarters in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo state.

Kokomansion understands that this is coming barely three days after unknown gunmen attacked the Imo State Police Command headquarters and the Owerri Correctional Prison and freed no fewer than 1,500 inmates,.

The Thursday morning attacked happened around 1 am and suspects detained in custody in the police facility were released.

It was gathered that the gunmen failed to raze the police facility due to the resistance by the policemen on duty.

Speaking to The PUNCH, a source said that the gunmen kidnapped one police officer and injured two other cops. He added that the hoodlums took away the phones belonging to suspects and the police operatives at the Divisional.

The source said, “We resisted them but they overpowered us. They had more sophisticated weapons. They took all the phones they saw, released the suspects when they gained access, and vandalized the police building.”

Confirming the attack, the Police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, said it was true that the armed hoodlums attacked the police station.

He also confirmed that while one police officer was missing, two others were injured owing to the resistance put by the policemen on duty.

Ikeokwu, also confirmed that some suspects detained in the police facility were freed by the attackers.

He, however, assured that the police authority in the state had commenced investigation into the attack immediately
