The widely publicized sit at home protest planned by the indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) today got underway in full force as some major cities in the Eastern part of the country were in full compliance.

Business areas, schools, banks, offices, and even transport companies were all on total lock down as residents observed the sit at home order given by IPOB to protest the alleged harsh treatments given to it’s members all over the country.

Reports gathered indicate that the commercial towns of Onitsha and Nnewi in Anambra state were in the fore front in observing the protests. There were no movements of people nor vehicles as all activities have been on a stand still.

Police vehicles and personnel were sited patrolling the streets and also positioned at strategic points.

Speaking to reporters on ground on plea of anonymity, residents expressed amazement at the level of compliance the sit at home order has received especially in such ever busy environment. The areas around Upper Iweka known for arrival and departure of night buses to all parts of the country surprisingly seems like ghost town up until the time this report was being filed.

Other major towns like Owerri also observed the protest as they were reports of youths burning tires on roads at the early hours of the day and transportation hampered seriously.
