Islamic State militants on Wednesday, captured and beheaded Taliban commander, Mullah Burjan, an Afghanistan government official said.
“Amid ongoing fighting between Taliban and IS group in Darzab district the IS fighters captured Taliban senior commander Mullah Burjan early Wednesday and beheaded him,” Reza Ghafoori, spokesman of the northern Jawzjan province, told Xinhua.
Ghafoori also said many fighters from both rival groups in Darzab disctrict have been killed over the past two days, after Taliban and IS militants engaged in fierce fighting over territorial control.
Neither Taliban nor IS has made any comment over Burjan’s murder. Darzab and Qush Tipa districts in Jawzjan province, have been the scenes of heavy fighting between Taliban and IS militants over the past two years.
