Following the order to conduct fresh elections, Kenya electoral commission has announced that a fresh presidential election will hold on October 17.

Wafula Chebukati, chairman of the electoral commission, said this in a statement issued on Monday.

The supreme court had nullified the result of the August 8 poll, ordering that a fresh election be held within 60 days.

The apex court had said the commission committed irregularities in adding up the votes cast.

President Uhuru Kenyatta criticised the court decision, calling the judges “crooks”.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has called for the electoral commission to be disbanded.

The election commission had earlier said only Kenyatta and Odinga would be on the ballot paper.
