A group of Kenyans travelling in a bus were ambushed by Islamist gunmen. They were asked to split into two groups, according to their religion, which is Christianity and Islamic religion.

An eye witness said the Muslims protected the Christians by not splitting into groups.

It was stated that at least two people were shot by the militants who targeted the bus close to the Somali border.

When al-Shabab shot 148 Christians in an attack on Garissa University College in April, the militants carefully singled out all the Christians and shot them, while the Muslims were freed.

The Mandera governor said passengers showed a deep sense of patriotism by insisting that the militant should either kill all of them together or free all them alone.
