Obianuju Catherine Udeh, popularly known as DJ Switch, has called the Lagos State government “a thief” over its plan to auction 88 cars seized from traffic offenders in the state.

The disc jockey, who played a prominent role in the #EndSARS protest, stated her position in a post on Instagram on Tuesday.

CSP Shola Jejeloye, Chairman of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit, had on Monday announced that the unit had secured  a court order from the state mobile court authorising it to publicly auction the vehicles from residents found guilty of contravening the One-Way Traffic Law.

According to Jejeloye, the public auction is expected to hold at Alausa, Ikeja, on Wednesday.

But reacting to the development, DJ Switch, who gained international attention when she ‘covered’ the gunshot incident at the Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020, berated the state government for taking such an action, arguing that it could have either fined the offenders or sent them to jail.

She also accused the state government of being criminals.

”I just read on the news that the Lagos State Environmental Unit through their inept and corrupt mobile court gave the order for peoples cars to be auctioned off, to be sold off.

“What happened to fines? Why can’t you fine these people? Give them something to pay or better still a minimum jail term. A weekend in jail or community service.

“All of a sudden you want to sell off the vehicles. You are a thief. Lagos state government is a thief.

“You are short of just carrying guns. It is gun that is remaining for you. You are a thief,” she wrote.

DJ Switch also criticised her fellow celebrities for not speaking up against the decision by the state government.

She wrote: “I am very certain that a lot of these people that their cars are there are crying out but nobody knows them. Where are our celebrities?

“The government didn’t even come up with creative ways to distract us and we are distracted. We have still not seen anyone dragged to jail over Lekki massacre.

“SARS is still running up and down the streets of this country, and nobody is doing anything about it. I can go on with a list of so many things going wrong.”
