Nigeria has past many ugly stages, but there seem to be a culture of lawlessness in the blood of Nigerians and corrupt government officials who by either theirs actions/inaction approve of acts of indiscipline, lawlessness and corruption.Benin City, was in the time past notorious for closing major roads, suffering the masses who ought to ply those roads, all in the name of wedding or funeral. At a time, that custom was done away with, but it is gradually returning.
On a busy Saturday afternoon in Benin City, with motorists going about their normal movement, only to discover that the popular Sokponba Road, close to King’s Square (Ring Road) was totally covered by canopies of persons having a celebration right at the center of the road that should have provided access to everyone.
The very point at which the major road is blocked, there is a school and a church, with large compounds that can be used for whatever events they may have.
Looking at the image above, vehicles are visibly see diverting through Igun, just to locate alternative routes, a situation that has led to hike in fare and huge traffic on the adjourning routes.
