A collection of christian groups in Nigeria has demanded that the Federal Government do everything in its power to facilitate the release of captured Dapchi school girl, Leah Sharibu.

Leah Sharibu has remained in Boko Haram custody, even after 112 other girls captured with her have been released.

The young girl was held back by her captives because of her heroic decision not to denounce her christian faith.

The christian groups insisted that President Buhari will lose the support of christians Nationwide if nothing is done to bring Leah home.

The coalition of christian bodies making the call included, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN); Catalyst for Global Peace and Justice (CPJ); Pentecostal Federation of Nigeria (PFN); Every Nation Ministries; Christian Lawyers Fellowship of Nigeria (CLASFON).

The groups met on Tuesday at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, to add volume to their agitations for the release of Leah and other persons abducted by the insurgents.

They warned that failure to bring Leah home would have a serious impact on the President’s second term ambition.

The groups reiterated serious concerns on the latest threats to kill Leah, given by the terrorist group.

Speaking to Newsmen at the Centre, the convener of CPJ, Mr. Abraham Aiyedogbon said:

“The president stands a better chance to get votes from us if he ensures the release of Leah Sharibu, but if he doesn’t, we know what to do.

“We will be doing RSVP – Register, Select, Vote and Protect our votes” he said.

“We, therefore, call on the federal government to do all within its powers to ensure the immediate release of Dapchi school girl, Sharibu”

“It is bad enough that following the abduction of over 200 Chibok girls in 2014 by Boko Haram extremists and the opprobrium that it brought on the Jonathan administration then, the Buhari administration would allow the recurrence of that incident with the February 2018 kidnapping of Dapchi girl” he continued.

“It is much worse that Sharibu was held back by her abductors on account of her heroic refusal to renounce her Christian faith when the government negotiated the release of the Dapchi girls”

“It is inexcusable that some eight months after her abduction, the federal government has not been able to secure Leah’s release.” Aiyedogbon said.
