Manchester United Football Club has agreed to terminate Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract, as he is set to sign for LA Galaxy.

Ibrahimovic posted on Instagram: “Great things also come to an end and it is time to move on after two fantastic seasons with Manchester United.

“Thank you to the club, the fans, the team, the coach, the staff and everybody who shared with me this part of my history.”

Ibrahimovic’s final match for United was the Boxing Day clash with Burnley at Old Trafford, in which he picked up another injury that has kept him out of action in 2018.

An announcement on the veteran striker’s switch to the MLS could be made as early as Friday, as the 36-year-old makes what is likely to be his last transfer of a long and distinguished playing career.

Ibrahimovic had agreed a one-year extension last summer despite a serious knee injury, following an outstanding first season in the Premier League in which he scored 28 goals in all competitions.

The former PSG, Barcelona, Juventus, AC Milan and Internazionale star returned in November but made only seven further appearances and, when asked about his status earlier this month, Mourinho said: “We all think it’s his last season at Manchester United and it will be a very personal decision for him to play or to stop.

“Only that awful injury at the wrong moment broke a fantastic couple of seasons he could, and should, have had with us.

“He’s not injured. Does he feel totally happy, ready and convinced that he’s in condition to help the team in this moment? No. But he’s such an honest guy and such a champion, he only wants to be back with that feeling of ‘I’m totally ready for it’.”

Ibrahimovic has retired from international football but is considering making a return for the World Cup in Russia this summer.
