Manchester United got a reprieve for their troubled season on Sunday after they defeated their hosts Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor, despite being down to 10 men with 20 minutes to go.

Romelu Lukaku, who has been misfiring so far this season, scored a brace for United in the first half.

Lukaku opened his team’s – and the game’s- account in the 26th minute, and was well positioned to convert from six yards for his second goal just before halftime.

However, things went a little scary for the Red Devils after Paul Pogba missed a penalty in the 68th minute to further stretch the team’s lead.

It got more complicated two minutes later after Marcus Rashford was sent off for a headbutt on a former United player, Phil Bardsley, who had clipped the striker’s ankles in cynical fashion.

But despite the red card, United held on to claim their second win of the Premier League campaign and lessen the pressure on manager Jose Mourinho for at least two weeks until after the international break.
