Barcelona and Argentine captain, Lionel Messi has been named the FIFA 2019 world best player.
He was announced on Monday at Teatro Alla Scala ahead of Liverpool Defender, Virgil Van Dijk and Juventus striker , Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi won the 2018/2019, UEFA Champions League highest goal scorer and also won the LA Liga player award for the last season.
Virgil Van Dijk, won the UEFA men’s awards as Messi missed out on the awards.
Messi also had a splendid season in which he scored 51 goals in 50 games on the way to winning the La Liga title with Barcelona.
