Chelsea Spanish striker, Alvaro Morata, has joined Atletico Madrid on loan until the end of next season.
Atletico confirmed Morata’s loan in a statement on Monday.
“Atlético de Madrid has reached an agreement with Chelsea Football Club over the loan of the 26-year-old for the remainder of the season and the next one. The striker has signed his contract after having passed his medical on Sunday.”
Morata had a medical in Spain on
Sunday ahead of his move to Atletico after Chelsea signed Argentina
international Gonzalo Higuain also on loan last week.
The 26-year-old spent four seasons at Atletico’s academy before
signing for rivals Real Madrid. He also played for Juventus before
joining Chelsea in July 2017 for a fee of around £60 million.
Despite a bright start at Chelsea, scoring seven goals in his first
seven games in a Chelsea shirt, Morata struggled for form and
confidence and a January exit looked increasingly likely as Maurizio
Sarri stepped up his pursuit of Higuain.
Speaking on his loan move, Morata said:”I’m very happy and proud to
be here,” he told Atletico Madrid’s website. “I can’t wait to start
training, meet my new teammates and play.”
