Manchester United’s hopes of Champions League football next season were ended after a 1-1 draw at already-relegated Huddersfield on Sunday.

United got off to a good start as they went 1-0 up on eight minutes after Scott McTominay collected the ball just inside the box and hammered it through Jonas Lossl in goal for Huddersfield.

Huddersfield equalised in the 60th minute following a break from a United corner, before Isaac Mbenza slotted home for his first goal for the club.

Huddersfield draw against United means they are the first of the three relegated sides to pick up a point against any of the top six clubs in Premier League this season.

United have now won just two of their last 11 games in all competitions as Huddersfield ended a run of eight straight defeats.

United remain sixth on 66 points and cannot catch Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, who are third and fourth on 71 and 70 points respectively, going into the final day next weekend.

Chelsea moved into third place in the Premier League after Sunday’s games as a quick-fire blitz from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and David Luiz inspired a vital 3-0 win over Watford.
