The mysterious death of a 40-year-old, divorced mother-of-four inside a hotel room she and her younger lover has been taken over by the police and her young lover is being interrogated.
The younger lover, 36, who hid the corpse and secretly buried her in an uncompleted building in Osara village, Abeokuta, is in police detention.
The suspect, Owolabi Musiliu, told journalists while being paraded at the Police Command ground that he panicked over the incident and feared he might be held responsible for the death of the woman, named Fausat Idowu.
He told the police they were both undressing in the hotel room when the deceased developed a temperature, slumped and died.
Some days after the incident, Idowu’s brother reportedly lodged a missing person complaint to the police.
The brother said the deceased had said she was going for a child christening but never returned.
The police said in investigating the deceased’s whereabouts her phone was recovered and profiled, which revealed the suspect was the last person she spoke with.
The police said, “On interrogation, the suspect admitted taking the deceased to a hotel at Iyana-Apakila, Abeokuta, for pleasure, where he claimed she fell ill. He said he took her in his vehicle but she died in the car mysteriously.
“He further confessed that he took the corpse to a nearby bush, dug a shallow grave and buried it without disclosing same to anybody. This made the circumstances of her death mysterious as well as questionable, which is condemnable. The suspect will soon be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.”
