Former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has rejected a statement by Senator Dino Melaye, comparing both of them of being “politically blind” for leaving the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

Fani-Kayode had, in a Twitter post, on Sunday congratulated Senator Melaye for returning to the PDP from the All Progressives Congress. He said he was glad that those who fought and “persecuted” him for supporting former president Goodluck Jonathan during the 2015 presidential election are now “coming back home.”

Responding via Twitter, Senator Melaye, who represents Kogi West senatorial district, said he and Fani-Kayode were both “politically blind” but that the latter was healed before him when he returned to the former ruling party in 2015.

But in an article on Monday, Fani-Kayode rebuffed the Kogi politician’s claims, stating that he was never “politically blind.”

Rather, the former minister, who was part of the founding members of the APC, hinged his decision to decamp from the PDP for the present ruling party due to sentimental emotions.

Fani-Kayode said, “The truth is that unlike him I was never ‘blind’ but I simply let down my guard, closed my eyes for a brief moment and allowed my fleeting anger to becloud my better judgement. Thankfully I opened those eyes relatively quickly and retraced my steps. I saw the evil and immediately I fled from it.”

The former spokesperson of the 2015 Goodluck Jonathan presidential campaign insisted that, unlike Senator Melaye, he detected negative tendencies in the party and quickly left just after nine months.

He said, “Within a short period of time such was the power of the stench of the group of people that I had erroneously aligned myself with for a few months in 2013 that I was compelled to open my eyes and flee the scene. Dino detected the same stench very early on but not only did he choose to hold his nose and stay in that filthy setting but he also opted to assist in putting it in power and enthroning it.”

“Unlike Dino I recognised the evil in them and left them long before they came to power in 2015. Unlike Dino I raised the alarm about their genocidal tendencies, their fascistic disposition, their secret desire to field a Muslim/Muslim ticket and their jihadist agenda. Unlike Dino I fought them to a standstill in the 2015 presidential election by boldly speaking for the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan.

Fani-Kayode chided Senator Melaye and other recent PDP returnees for staying back in the APC for three years despite being “humiliated, detained, subjected to trumped-up and politically-motivated criminal charges and brutal witchunt.”

He, however, applauded the Senator’s decision to return to his original, saying “it is better late than never.”

“Let God judge between those of us that stayed with the evil and those of us that opposed it. Whatever the case I congratulate Dino for seeing the light, albeit three years late, and for returning to the fold and the land of the living. As they say, it is better late than never”, Fani-Kayode said.
