Nigeria have qualified for the 2019 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, after trouncing Sudan 5-0 in the second-leg final qualifier on Tuesday in Asaba in Delta State.
The country’s U-23 Eagles qualified 5-1 on aggregate, after losing the first leg 1-0 in Omdurman last week Thursday.
Taiwo Awoniyi cancelled the first-leg deficit to put the U-23 Eagles 1-0 in the eight minute before Ndifreke Effiong scored the second and third goal in the 26th and 44th minute respectively, to go into the break 3-0 up.
The Eagles continued to press for more goals and were rewarded in the 66th minute before Sunusi Ibrahim completed the rout in the 68th minute to make it 5-0.
Qualification for the third U-23 AFCON, will see the Eagles defend their title which they won in 2015 under former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia.
The U-23 AFCON will determine which three African teams will compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics men’s football tournament in Japan.
The tournament will hold between November 8th to 22nd in Egypt.
