Nigeria wins third Commonwealth Games gold medal

Ndidi Nwosu has won Nigeria’s third gold medal of the Commonwealth Games.

The gold medal was Nigeria’s third in the para power lifting event.

Nwosu lifted 120kg to claim the first position in the women’s heavyweight category.

England’s Louis Sudgen won silver with a lift of 89.2Kg while Kenya’s Joyce Njuguna claimed the bronze medal with a lift of 89.0kg.

At the 2016 Paralympic Games in Brazil, Nwosu defeated the defending champion to win women’s -73kg para power lifting event.

Nigeria now has three gold and three silver medals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

Nigeria won her first gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games, through para power lifter, Roland Ezuruike.

Ezuruike took the top medal in the para power lifting lightweight category on Tuesday.

He lifted 224.3kg while countryman Paul Kehinde claimed the silver medal with a 219.9kg lift.

England’s Ali Jawad won the bronze with a lift of 182.7kg.

Ezuruike won a silver medal in the men’s 72kg event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

On September 9, 2016, he set a new Paralympics record in the men’s 54kg category after lifting 200kg at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
