Members of the new Peoples’ Democratic Party, nPDP, a factional group within the All Progressives Congress, APC, are set to meet ahead of the party’s national convention holding next week to take a stance on their involvement in the ruling party.

According to the Punch, some members of the nPDP such as Bukola Saraki, the Senate President, and Kawu Baraje, the group’s National Chairman, have had a series of meetings while performing the lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia and would disclose their next line of action.

The source said members of the group would make their position known in the next “few days.”

“Many of our leaders were in Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj and as you would expect, they met and we expect that within the next few days we will meet on a larger scale to agree on a position”, the source said.

On the likely course of action that the nPDP will take just a week before the APC national convention, the source argued that the members are not worried about the timing, rather they are more concerned about the substance of their upcoming decision.

The source, however, berated the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, for failing to accede to the request of the nPDP members to change the party’s name, attributing it as the reason of delay by the breakaway former PDP members.

The source said, “In politics, as in war, you don’t use all of your ammunition in a single battle.

“If not that some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party are resisting the advice to change name, our relationship would have since been consummated.”

The source added that the nPDP faction would only resume negotiations with the APC when they “see a sign of good faith” from the party.

“We also have to give room for the possibility of another round of discussions with the Vice President and the APC, why we called the meeting off is already public knowledge.
