NUJ set to establish radio and television stations

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, is set to establish radio and television stations in the country.

NUJ National President, Waheed Odusile, disclosed this on Monday in Bauchi during a condolence visit to the union’s National Secretary, Mr Shuaibu Leman, over the death of his mother, Mrs Jonnah Leman.

Odusile said that the stations would commence operation in the next few months.

According to him, the stations will generate income for the union for effective discharge of its responsibilities when operational.

He enjoined practsing journalists to always discharge their responsibilities in accordance with the ethics of the profession.

The NUJ president expressed concern over the failure of some media organisations, especially private media outfits, to pay their workers’ salaries regularly.

He explained that the union has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Labour to find lasting solution to the problem.

He also called on the Federal Government to consider the union’s request for special salaries for working journalists due to hazardous nature of their job.

Responding on behalf of the family of the deceased, Leman commended the delegation for the visit and prayed to God to reward them abundantly.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the NUJ president was accompanied on the visit by the union’s Deputy National President, Muktar Gidado.

Others are: Deputy National President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Umar Saidu and the Bauchi NUJ Chairman, Ibrahim Goje, among others.
