Oba of Benin: Tradition Council bars Benin residents from cooking with fire Sunday

If you reside in the Benin kingdom in Edo state, you have been requested not to cook with fire on Sunday, 5th June. This forms part of the 15 days funeral rites of the late Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba n’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa.

According to the royal funeral rites programme, it is the day of Igberimwin.

A press statement signed by Secretary to the Benin Traditional Council, Mr. Frank Irabor, stated that the day of cooking without fire was in accordance with Benin customs and tradition.

The release stated that all Benis as well as non-indigenes resident in the kingdom are expected to observe the Igberimwin rites.
