Senator representing Kogi west, Dino Melaye, on Friday turned down his appointment as director-general of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship campaign in Kogi state.

Musa Wada, a younger brother of the immediate past governor of the state, clinched the PDP ticket, and will face Yahaya Bello, incumbent governor, who is candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 16 governorship election.

In a tweet on Friday, Dino Melaye who participated in the PDP governorship primary said he was not interested in the appointment.

“Let me state categorically that I have turned down the position of Director-General of the PDP Kogi State Governorship Campaign Council,” he wrote.

“I wish PDP all the best. When truth is a casualty there is chaos.”

Recall that after losing the PDP gubernatorial ticket, the senator dismissed the primary as “ridiculous”, saying the outcome is “totally” unacceptable.

PDP’s reaction to the rejection

In a statement signed by Bode Ogunmola, Spokesman of the PDP, on Friday, the party described the decline of Dino’s appointment as rumour which should be disregarded by the public.

Ogunmola noted that, Dino requested for a letter of appointment from the party and he was given with his acknowledgment

The statement further reads “He has promised to call for a meeting as soon as he is back from London.

“We therefore hope that if there was reasons for the decline he would have written back to the party.

“Since there was no official communication rejecting the appointment we urge the public and members of our party to consider the information trending that Sen. Dino Melaye has rejected his appointment as rumour and fake.”
