its men and two others after a gun battle between security operatives and the gang of a wanted kingpin in Benue State.

Wanted kingpin, Terwase Akwaza has been reportedly terrorising residents in Ukum Local Government Area of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP. Moses Joel Yamu, said in a statement on Thursday that the command had received a report that at about 11:00am on Thursday, some armed Shitile militia known as “Ghana Boys” dressed in police mobile force and special forces uniforms were approaching Zaki Biam town through bush paths, riding on Bajaj motorcycles.

“It is important to note that, their movement was is in a bid to escape the ongoing joint operation tagged “Whirl Stroke” targeted at their enclaves which forced them out, to possibly seek refuge in the town,” Yamu stated.

He further added that the DPO in charge of Ukum division of the force quickly rallied force operatives to confront the threat posted by the militia.

He noted that an intense gun battle followed and at the end some fatalities was recorded.

He confirmed that a police officer was seriously injured in the gun battle and his fire arm taken away by the gang members

He also added that a woman and a child were also caught up in the cross fire.

He sadly noted that all three casualties were confirmed dead upon rushing them to the hospital for treatment. 

Mr Yamu further stated that three other persons who sustained injuries are currently receiving treatment at Light of Grace Hospital in Zaki Biam.

He assured residents that Commissioner of Police, CP. Ene O will intensify efforts to bring the armed militia to Justice.

He enjoined citizens of Ukum and the general public not to panic as the force will do all it can to ensure the law catches up with the perpetrators of the act.
