Everton defeated Arsenal at Goodison Park on Sunday. A result that stops the Gunners from moving to third in the Premier League.
Phil Jagielka, who was came into the starting eleven as a replacement for Michael Keane shortly before kick-off, poked home in the 10th minute, following Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header from Lucas Digne’s long throw.
Arsenal were below par in the first half. But while they improved in the second, they failed to seriously test Jordan Pickford in the Toffees goal.
Meanwhile, dominant Everton, created plenty of chances to double their lead in the second half, but Bernard, Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson all missed their opportunities.
There were further opportunities for Bernard, Andre Gomes and substitute, Theo Walcott, as they piled more pressure on the visitors for a second goal.
The victory was the Merseyside club’s third consecutive win, which now takes them above Watford into ninth, while Arsenal remain in fourth in the fight for a Champions League place next season.
