Luis Suarez made his 100th appearance for Uruguay and marked the feat with a goal as he helped his team to 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia on Wednesday at the ongoing World Cup in Russia.

The Barcelona forward netted his 52nd international goal on his landmark 100th appearance, taking full advantage of a goalkeeping error from a routine corner.

The three points secured by Uruguay has confirmed their qualification for the Round of 16 and it has effectively extinguished any slim hopes nursed by Egypt that they can still sneak into the knockout phase.

After firing blanks in the opening game against Egypt, Suarez atoned for his unforgivable misses with a calmly taken goal on Wednesday.

Uruguay and Russia are now level on six points after two matches but the hosts have a clear advantage; having scored eight goals compared to their nearest rival’s two.

The South Americans will have to beat the hosts to finish top in Group A while Egypt and Saudi Arabia will only be involved in an academic exercise and battle for national pride.
