Sacked Abuja Imam urges clerics to speak up on Nigeria’s situation

Controversial  Muslim cleric and the founder of Islamic Research and Da’awah Foundatio, Sheikh Nuru Khalid, has lamented that only few Imams have the confidence to speak on the present situation in the country.

Speaking on a Trust TV programme, Daily Politics on Wednesday, Sheik Khalid, who was  sacked by the mosque’s committee, after he criticised the Buhari administration in one of his sermons as the Chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters Central Mosque, Abuja, said clerics should speak in the overall development of the country.

He explained, “Very few Imams speak on the ugly situation in the country. And this is the right time to speak up. If you are an Imam, don’t be afraid. Speak the truth and let them take their mosque.”

According to him, he first learnt about his suspension on the media.

He alleged it was a one-man show, as no committee sat before the said suspension, stressing that if they wanted him to go, they should have approached him in person and he would have gladly left.

Sheik Khalid stated that the Mosque was established by a Muslim committee in the legislative quarters and was not owned by the government.

The Imam, however, lamented that Senator DanSadau used the pulpit of the mosque to defend the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
