The coroner who is leading inquest into the death of Argentine football player, Emiliano Sala, has revealed that the player died due to injuries he sustained to his head and chest.
Sala was on board a Piper Malibu aircraft that crashed into the English channel with pilot, David Ibbotson on January 21.
The 28-year-old had just signed a £15 million contract with English Premiership side, Cardiff City from French team, Nantes. The plane, which had disappeared from radar before crashing into the water, was later discovered by a privately-financed search.
Last week, a body was recovered from the wreckage of the plane, and was subsequently identified as that of Sala.
But the body of Ibbotson, the only other person on board is yet to be found.
During Monday’s hearing of the post-mortem examination, Dorset Coroner’s Court concluded that Sala’s death was caused by injuries to his head and chest.
There will now be an interim investigation, which is expected to be concluded within the next six to 12 months.
Meanwhile, family of the pilot have said they will not give up the hope of news about Ibbotson.
Paris Saint-Germain forward, Kylian Mbappe, has donated £27, 000 to the search for the body.
