The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Friday dismissed the appeal brought before her by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, challenging his trial on 13 counts of false assets declaration by the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
Justice Moore Adumein who led the panel and Justice Mohammed Mustapha dismissed the appeal, but Justice Joseph Ekanem in his judgement upheld the appeal and discharged the Senate President of the trial before the CCT.
The Court ruled that the “The CCT is a court of criminal jurisdiction, albeit limited jurisdiction”.
It stated further: “There is no inherent difference between a court and a tribunal. The only difference is that tribunals in most cases handle special cases”.
