Liverpool’s impressive start to the Premier League continued on Saturday after they thrashed Southampton 3-0 at Anfield.
Three first-half goals from Wesley Hoedt (own goal), Joel Matip and Mohamed Salah made it a sixth successive league win for Liverpool.
An own goal from Hoedt on 10 minutes put Liverpool 1-0 up before Matip doubled their lead on 21 minutes.
In the 45th minute, the Reds extended their lead thanks to their star forward, Salah, to make it 3-0.
The win saw Liverpool temporarily return to the top of the Premier League table with 18 points.
Liverpool have now won the opening seven games of a season in all competitions for the first time in their history.
Elsewhere, champions Manchester City put their shock UEFA Champions League defeat to Lyon last week by outclassing Cardiff City 5-0 away.
Sergio Aguero made it 1-0 on 32 minutes before Bernardo Silva added the second goal on 35 minutes.
Ilkay Gundogan got on the score sheet in the 44th minute while Riyad Mahrez grabbed two goals to complete the rout in 67 and 89th minutes respectively.
With the win against Cardiff, Manchester City now seats second temporarily on 16 points after six games.
Manchester United could not replicate their Champions League performance during the week as they were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw by newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.
Former United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, was present at Old Trafford after recovering from a brain haemorrhage.
Summer signing Fred gave United the lead in the 18th minute only for Joao Moutinho to equalise for Wolves on 53 minutes.
With the draw, United now occupy the fifth position on 10 points.
And at the King Power Stadium, Nigerian international, Kelechi Iheanacho, scored his first league goal this season and bagged an assist as Leicester City returned to winning ways with a 3-1 comeback win against Huddersfield Town.
Heading into the Huddersfield clash, Leicester had lost their last two Premier League games.
Iheanacho drew Leicester level in the 19th minute to cancel out Mathias Jorgensen’s fifth-minute opener.
Leicester took the lead for the first time in the game thanks to James Maddison on 66 minutes before Jamie Vardy made the points safe with a 75th minute goal after he was set up by Iheanacho.
In other results, Burnley smashed visiting Bournemouth 5-0, the biggest win in their Premier League history, Newcastle United forced Crystal Palace to a goalless draw away, and Fulham played 1-1 at home against Watford with Nigerian forward Isaac Success in action for the Hornets.
