Delta state government on Monday said it for the 6,000 slots available, it had received over 60, 000 applications from youths from every part of the state in the first phase of the Skill Training and Entrepreneurship Programme, STEP and the Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme, YAGEP.
This disclosure was made during a courtesy visit to the management of NECONDE Nig. Ltd., by the Special Assistant to Delta state governor on Youth and Community Development, Mr. Eric Omare, where he urged multinational oil companies operating in the state to key into the state government’s job and wealth creation programmes as part of their corporate social responsibility to their host communities.
He further explained that owing to the limited resources available to the government, it cannot accommodate up to 50% of individuals willing to participate in its skills and agricultural training programme, therefore, there is need for companies to assist in job creation to accommodate graduands of the programme.
Omare went on to say: “It is pertinent for companies to model their youth engagement programmes after the state government’s youth training programmes which is aimed at making youths entrepreneurs and gainfully employed.”
The Chief Operating Officer of NECONDE, Mr. Oriseh Agbarah while thanking Omare for the visit, stated that the company is in the process of localising its Global Memorandum of Understanding, GMoU, to ensure smooth operation in its host communities.
