Barcelona striker, Luiz Suarez and Paris Saint-Germain hitman, Edinson Cavani, got on the score sheet for Uruguay in their opening Group C match on Sunday at the Copa America.
The 15-time champions thrashed 10-man Ecuador 4-0 to get off to a winning start.
Suarez found the net just before half time, after goals from Nicolas Lodeiro and Cavani had put his side in control.
Uruguay then softened the pressure on their opponent, before an own-goal from defender, Arturo Mina, ensured that Oscar Tabarez’s side got all three points.
It took the Uruguayans just six minutes to open the scoring in Belo Horizonte, when midfielder Lodeiro brilliantly controlled a cross before putting the ball into the far corner of goalkeeper Alexander Dominguez’s goal.
Things got worse for Ecuador, as Jose Quinteros was shown a red card in the 23rd minute with help from VAR. His arm had made contact with Lodeiro’s head during an aerial challenge.
The sending-off put Uruguay in control and they almost scored the second minutes later, as Cavani forced the goalkeeper to a good stop, while Dominguez and Lodeiro fired over the bar.
The PSG forward also saw an effort saved onto the post, before he doubled Uruguay’s tally with an acrobatic volley.
Former Liverpool man, Suarez, then tapped home from close range just before the break to add a third to put the game beyond Ecuador’s reach.
Despite a quiet second-half, Mina’s own-goal 12 minutes from the final whistle gave Uruguay their biggest win in the continental competition since 1967.
The victory means that Tabarez’s side sit comfortably at the top of the group, with Chile and Japan set to start their campaigns on Monday.
