Super Eagles contributes N6m to the Amputee Football team

The Super Eagles has donated the sum of 6million naira to aid the nation’s Amputee soccer team participate in this year’s Amputee World Cup.

Known as the Special Eagles, the Amputee soccer team had earlier called out for funds from the public, to enable them take part in the upcoming tournament.

The Eagles had made this donation in a meeting held before the 4-0 victory over Libya on Saturday.

Contributing his own quota, Chairman of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick had reportedly donated N2.5m to the team last week.

Confirming the Eagles donation and speaking in anonymity, a player said:

“Yes we did donate, we hope they feature in the World Cup in Mexico,” he told CompleteSportsNigeria.

The $16,530 (about N6m naira) donated was for the team’s preparations, travel costs and other expenses.

A further $5000 was also generated for the team’s upkeep in the tournament.

The Amputee World Cup kicks off in Mexico from the 24th of October to November 11 and the Special Eagles will look to impress.

The team is drawn in Group D alongside Russia, El Salvador and Brazil.

Having missed the last 3 World Cups due to poor funding, the Special Eagles look set to make their mark in Mexico alongside 46 other countries.
