UPDATED: Hurricane Matthew leaves 900 dead in Haiti, Florida battered

Hurricane Matthew, a category 3 storm that hit Haiti on Tuesday has killed at least 900 people.hurricane-matthewOfficials say that the Caribbean wind wrecked about 90 per cent damage  on all the cities that it affected.

Some of the hardest-hit towns are yet to be reached by land, and there are fears that more bodies will be found.

Parts of Haiti’s south had faced “complete destruction”, aid workers told the BBC.

Matthew had already battered US state of Florida cutting electricity to over 500,000 residents and is now heading towards South and North Carolina.

The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said that the Hurricane had downgraded to Category 1 with a maximum sustained winds having decreased to 85mph (140km/h).

Most of the deaths in Haiti were in towns and fishing villages around the southern coast, with many killed by falling trees, flying debris and swollen rivers.
