The National team coach, Sunday Oliseh, has expressed remorse and has offered an apology to Nigerians for the early exit.

The Eagles were seen as firm favourites for a slot in the quarter final, but embarrassingly left the 2016 CHAN tournament at the group stage.

Commenting via his official twitter handle, Oliseh said; “We apologize to Nigerians for this loss; we never planned to exit the tournament this early. The boys gave their best.”

“To be honest with you (even though) I am not going to go into details, my boys have been working under extreme duress ever since we got here (Rwanda),” Oliseh told reporters in Rwanda before the game against Guinea.

He continued: “I personally feel like we are driving a car with an empty petrol tank.

“I will not go into details so for that reason, I know that this is just another (bit of) difficulty that we have to surmount.

“That notwithstanding, the boys are human beings and let’s just hope we don’t break,” he said.
