6 Nigerian traditional rulers who died this year

As the curtains drop on the year 2015, let’s run through the list of monarchs that died along the way.

1. Ooni of Ife: Oba Okunade Sijuwade reigned for almost 35years as the Ooni of Ife, he was crowned on the 6th of December, 1980 and died on the 28th of July, 2015 after a brief illness. Oba Enitan Ogunwusi has been crowned as the new Ooni of Ife.

2. Olu of Warri: The 19th Olu of Warri, Atwatse II A. K. A. Godwin Toristeju Emiko passed away on the 5th of September after reigning as the Olu of Warri for 28years. After the 3-month mourning period, HRM Godfrey Ikenwoli Gbesimi Emiko was crowned as the 20th Olu of Warri on the 13th of December.

3. Emir of Bogu: Haliru Dantoro Kitoro III passed away after a brief illness in a German hospital on the 30th of October, 2015. Muhammad Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV has since been crowned as the new Emir.

4. Emir of Gusau: Alhaji Muhammad Kabiru Danbaba passed away on the 5th of March at age 88 and Alhaji Ibrahim Bello has since been crowned as the new Emir.

5. Emir of Keffi: Alhaji Muhammadu Yamusa II died in his sleep on the 4th of December at the age of 70.

6. Tor Tiv: Alfred Akawe Torkula died at the age of 71 on the 23rd of November.
